Face Makeup - The Struggle of Finding a Match

Hello Loves,

US makeup junkies are always looking for the best foundations. The trouble with looking for the best match, is there's always something that has to give in other areas. So, I am going to post entries about foundations that I have tried. There are so many people recommending beauty products on their blogs & YouTube. After reading and watching them I am always stuck asking myself, "How would I know if that would really work on my face?" Hopefully my future posts will help. Because, I am not one to follow the hype!

SKIN TYPE:
  • Combination/Oily
    • I am oily in my T-zone
    • Dry around my mouth and nose
    • Eye area - Lids, can become very oily. Under eye area, dry.
  • Acne Prone
    • White Heads
    • Black Heads
    • Cystic Acne
  • Scars and Pigmentation
    • I have many scars
    • My skin color is not the same throughout
  • Pores
    • I have large pores on my nose and inner cheek area
  • Skin Smoothness
    • My skin is not completely smooth. When up close it looks like reptile skin (but no dry).
  • Color
    • Tan, Olive, Warm Undertone
    • Color Match - MAC NC40, NC42, N40

I will likely be grading each of the foundations by keeping in mind the conditions of my skin. Additionally...
  • Coverage
  • Lasting Power
  • Finish
  • How it Feels on the Skin
  • Best Way(s) to Apply
  • Price

I can't wait to start putting reviews up. I find reviews very helpful, but I can't ever get all the information that I am looking for. I feel, if I find this information helpful, other may as well. =] Wish me luck.

Arroz Caldo (Warm Rice Soup)

There are 2 dishes that Filipino's love to make when someone is sick. Sinigang (Tamarind Based Soup/Stew with Mixed Veggies and Meat) and Arroz Caldo. It is basically the Chicken Noodle Soup of the Philippines. This is what I craved when I was recently feeling sick, and what I craved as a child. Just as we all say about our mothers cooking, "My mother makes it best!". She cooks the best Filipino Food. =] As a child, I dreamed that my mom would open a kitchen of her own. But, "cooking Filipino food is too much work", is what she would say. There are so many ingredients, and my mom doesn't like to take shortcuts by using food processors and such. She still cooks for the family, but would like some help or for someone to take over the big ticket items. Finally after 20 plus years, I am learning how to cook!!

What Do You Need?
    1          4lb Whole Chicken (Butchered)
    6          Cloves of Garlic (Minced)
    1          Medium Onion (Diced)
    3          Bay Leaves
    2          Inches of Ginger (Julienned)
                Salt and Pepper
8-10      Cups of Water to Start
               Olive Oil or Canola
    2         Cups of Rice
Garnish:
1          Bushel of Green Onions (Finely Diced)
   1-2        Lemons (Wedged)
    4          Garlic (Minced) - optional
??          Hard Boiled Eggs - optional

                Large Pot or Dutch Oven

Butcher Your Chicken:
2 Legs
2 Thighs
2 Wings & Drumettes
2 Breasts
1 Back Bone

This was honestly WAY too much meat when I cooked it. I would suggest saving the breast meat for another dinner.

Make Your Broth:
Oil your pot. Sauté garlic and onions until lightly browned. Remove onions and garlic mixture and place in a bowl. Then brown chicken pieces in the pot you used to sauté the onions and garlic. Cook 3-4 pieces at a time, then put it to the side. Once you are done browning the chicken, place the onions back into the pot and add about 8-10 cups of water to the pot, enough to fully cover the chicken. Turn the temp to HIGH, once it starts to boil, lower to a simmer. Add you bay leaves and 2 tablespoons of salt, if you wish add some pepper (I did a few twist of some cracked black pepper corns). The broth should be done after about 45 minutes. I wait until the chicken nearly falls off the bone. Keep on adding to the water in the pot as need to cover your chicken.

What Comes Next??
After the broth is made, remove all the chicken from the pot & set it to the side to cool. Add the ginger to the pot. Stop to think about how much broth you have in the pot. Then think about how much rice you would like to add to that. Imagine when you cook rice, how much of the pot it fills when it is fully cooked. What did I do? After my broth was done, I added 2 cups of washed rice into the pot. Turn the temperature to high, when it start to boil, turn it down to a simmer. At this point keep watch. If it looks like it needs more water, add as you see fit. It all depends on how you want the consistency of your porridge to be. The rice will be done cooking in about 20-30 minutes. During this time, shred the meat off the bones of you chicken. If you don’t like getting your hands dirty, you can chop it, but I like the shredded look, so I just sit there using my fingers. Turn off the heat. Let cool, then ENJOY.

Green Onion, just put a bunch on top then MIX.
Garlic, roast it in the OVEN. YUM!!
Lemon, if you have calamansi that would be best. Otherwise, lemon will do… Squeeze some into your soup if you like.
Hard Boiled Eggs, who doesn't like eggs in their soup??

It’s a simple dish. This was the first time I made it. I actually wasn’t able to get my hands on actual ginger, so I used the stuff out of the tube. It wasn’t the same. I just had to add a lot more of it to my soup. I also added a little dried parsley to mine. Adds a little something different to it. Overall, I enjoyed it. & I hope that you do too. Let me know how it goes.

The Loss of a Loved One

Dealing with loss is never easy. They say that if something happens to you enough times, it get easier. Not in this case.

I have been working for MidPen for going on 4 years now. I have forged some strong bonds with people, one of which with, Benjamin Arcangle. I didn't know him outside of work (which is a shame), but at work he was a character. Always laughing and smiling, even on his most frustrating days. I wish that I had gotten to know him outside of work. Because the things I learned about him today, were things that I would have loved to learn about him, coming from him

1. He was married and had been with his partner for 10 years.
2. He lived in Hawaii.
3. He was great at playing the guitar and singing
4. He was part of a huge family, and was very family oriented.
5. He did Indonesian Traditional Dance and also studied theArts in Indonesia.
6. He got his BA in History and Asian Art History (something like that).
7. He enjoyed being the host of family gatherings.
8. He loved going on adventures.

There is much more, but those are just a few things. He touched so many peoples lives. Pushing them to be better, sharing his knowledge, being a great companion and humanitarian. I will forever remember him. He has taught me to:

1. Don't take crap from anyone.
2. Do it yourself, don't wait in things to go through it's normal flow.
3. Take risks.
4. Don't complain unless you have an idea of how to make it better.
5. Laugh and smile thoughout your day, no matter what kind of day you are having.
6. Spread love, kindness, and knowledge.
7. Be passionate.

I can't believe he is gone. I will miss him dearly, and he is certainly, one of a kind.

So... The loss of someone is never easy. You will always miss them and always be reminded of them. Just live your life to the fullest, as that's what they would want us to do. They are watching over us, guiding us, protecting us.

Death is Nothing at All

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.

All is well.

I Think I Need a Career Change

Currently I work for a Non-Profit Affordable Housing Developer/Property Management company in the Accounting Department. If you would have asked me 10 years ago, "What do you see yourself doing in the future?" I most likely would have never said, "Work in Accounting". The job is a necessary evil, every company needs some kind of accounts person. My only experience with Accounting is this job, I have not had previous experience in Accounting. I have been lucky enough to fall into some great jobs, and I have gained some great experience. On the other hand, I do see myself as being less marketable because;
  1. The position I hold is entry level with no advancement opportunity
  2. I don't have a lot of college education
Yes, I am lacking confidence in my skills. I have started looking through job listings, and I get discouraged after reading the qualifications. I am full of BS, but I don't have a BS or BA. I know that I must go back to school, and I need to stop making excuses. My real question is, how do I figure out what I want to do as a career? I love to help people, collaborate, I am a stickler for SOP, I take initiative, I am a team player, etc... Give me some idea's on what you think I should look into as a career.

Why I Have Started This Blog

Hello All,

My name is Angelica "Angie". I have lived in California all my life, specifically the SF Bay Area/East Bay Area. Here we enjoy very beautiful weather. To be honest, we are very spoiled here in the Bay Area. We don't get very harsh weather. To us, 50 degrees fahrenheit is freezing.

The reason that I am starting this BLOG is to share all the RANDOM things in my life.

Happenings/Findings
Adventures
Likes & Dislikes
Thoughts
Lifestyle
etc...
I also want to start archiving things. Life is full of so many random moments, and I want to be able to go back to something and remember them. Life passes us by so fast. You then stop and wonder, "Where did all the time go?" I am almost 30 years old (I still have a few more years, but I am rounding up) and I feel like my journey is just now beginning. I feel like this is the time in my life where things are just going to start happening, good things. And I don't want to forget a moment of it.

Some things that I will be writing about soon are:

Becoming a healthier me.
Finding my career.
My boyfriend going through a Firefighter Academy.
          How I help him prepare.
          What he is going through.
How I treat my face.
Outdoor Activities.
etc...
I hope that in creating this blog I can teach people a thing or two and keep myself from forgetting all the wonderful things that I am so blessed to experience.
